Board
Luc Nelissen - Chairman
chairman@scope-focus.nlMy name is Luc Nelissen and I am 22 years old. Currently I am studying my Master IB Entrepreneurship & SME Management, which I started last February. It was right after my Bachelor, which I followed at University College Maastricht, and after my semester abroad at the University of Adelaide in Australia in particular, that I realized that I wanted to be active in more than only my study. After having done a business development internship in the Maastricht area, I got the opportunity to organize the congress for SCOPE|FOCUS. While organizing, I got a very good impression of how professional and social the association is. Integration and cooperation have been central themes to SCOPE|FOCUS, both internally and externally. This year I made it my goal to continue improving this cooperation, but more importantly to optimize it, to strengthen our position and look for improvements in the future. The past year has been one in which the intended restructuring of FAME has been implemented. There are still many points that can possibly be improved to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the new SCOPE structure. Therefore we will need to closely cooperate with the other associations, the SBE and our actives to tackle these issues and as such improve the overall stability and professionalism. We would also like to cooperate more with our daughter association SIGMA and try to create more awareness for them. We will maintain our relationship with sponsors and see where we can improve this relationship to the benefit of SCOPE|FOCUS’ members. Finally, we would like to continue working closely together with our backbone; the actives. Their needs, propositions and efforts are of utmost importance to achieve what we do throughout the year. The academic year 2012-2013 is going to be a challenging year, where we will do our best to adhere to the long-term vision of SCOPE|FOCUS within the established SCOPE structure. I will do my best to build further on the legacy left from the previous board.
Raphael Teufel - Secretary
secretary@scope-focus.nlMy name is Raphael Teufel and I am a 21-year-old German currently doing my Bachelor in Economics and Business Economics. Even though I am rather new to SCOPE|FOCUS, I was able to get some first impressions during past events and activities like the Congress and Tuesday evenings in the Preuverij. This is also why I am not just honored and excited but also thankful to take over the position as the Secretary of the SCOPE|FOCUS Board during the academic year 2012/13. I see this as a new challenge, which I am ambitious to master by contributing already existing abilities, further improving them, and developing many new skills. The functions of my position will be to ensure a frictionless and continuous information flow, not just within SCOPE|FOCUS but also with its partners. Moreover, it is my personal goal to reorganize currently existing databases of SCOPE|FOCUS. This follows from the fact that the restructuring of SCOPE and its several sub-organizations is not yet completed, which hems the current workflow as not every information is easily retrievable. Besides this, the position of the secretary is coupled with that of the Vice Chair. In this respect I am eager to fully support the Chairman and make sure that all tasks are executed.
Bram Vandewall - Treasurer
treasurer@scope-focus.nlMy name is Bram Vandewall, I am 24 years old and I will fulfill the role of Treasurer during the next board year. After coming back from an awesome semester in Australia I started my Master’s in accounting in February. During the final year of my Bachelor at the SBE I came into contact with SCOPE|FOCUS. I joined the Big 4 Cycle and the IFO to Chicago last year. It was during these activities that I got to know the association and saw the motivated group of students that made all these activities possible. Realizing that it would be a great opportunity to become an active member of this group I joined the MFD committee as operations manager. As a member of the MFD committee I got to know the association even better and it seemed a great opportunity to become a board member. As Treasurer, of course, my main goal is to make sure that the association is financially sound. Furthermore, I want to make students more aware of the different activities FOCUS has to offer. I see it as a challenge to make the next year at least as successful as the previous. I am looking forward to the next year and I hope to meet you all soon at one of our activities or at one of our drinks!
Thur Opgenoord - Commissioner Activities
activities@scope-focus.nlMy name is Thur Opgenoord and I will fulfill the position of Commissioner Activities of the 2012/2013 SCOPE|FOCUS board. I am 21 years old and was born and raised in the Netherlands. Next to the board position I will finish the master IB-Finance which I started in February 2012. After finishing my bachelors with an exchange semester at the University of Newcastle, Australia I got the opportunity to be part of SCOPE|FOCUS’ Congress Committee 2012. However, this was not my first experience with FOCUS. My first experience was already during the second year of my BSc. International Business. During this year I joined the Big Four Cycle 2010 committee and many of the social activities. As an active member I highly enjoyed the great mix of organizing events in a professional manner, as well as the diverse social aspects of the association. My goal is to make sure that all the existing activities are at least as great a success as in the previous years. However, as the needs and wants of students and companies change over time, our activities have to do so as well. Therefore, the other candidates and myself want to organize new events to make sure that SCOPE|FOCUS remains the best possible intermediary between students and companies. To make this possible I want to leverage the relationships with our alumni, acquire new motivated actives and retain the current actives and make sure all the experience and knowledge that committees acquire is passed on to new members. I am looking forward to the upcoming year and I am convinced that together with the other board members we will make it a great one!
Carlijn Kip - Commissioner External Relations
externalrelations@scope-focus.nlMy name is Carlijn Kip and I am 21 years old. In September I will start with my Master in Accounting and next to that I will fulfill the role of Commissioner External Relations Netherlands of SCOPE|FOCUS. During my major, I got to know more of SCOPE|FOCUS after joining several activities. I wanted to get to know more people, make a bridge between theory and practice and be focused more on my future while getting to know more companies. Fulfilling the role of Commissioner External Relations will provide me with the opportunity to develop myself, to gain a lot of experience and to get to know many new people. For the upcoming year, my goal is to maintain and build on the existing relationships we have with our sponsors and to add valuable companies to our sponsor base. Moreover, I will maintain an optimal connection between our sponsors and the students, to make sure everyone is satisfied. Lastly, it is of great importance to work closely together with the Commissioner External Relations Germany to efficiently maintain and build on our sponsor relationships. Overall, I am really looking forward to the upcoming year and the great opportunities it will bring, I am sure it will be an amazing year and an experience I will never forget! I hope to see you all soon!
Paul Nuscheler - Commissioner PR and Magazine
pr@scope-focus.nlMy name is Paul Nuscheler and I will be the Public Relations commissioner of SCOPE|FOCUS for the academic year 2012-2013. I am 20 years old and used to live in a town close to Munich. In my free time, I enjoy playing tennis and volleyball, I like to read, and I try to seize every opportunity to meet friends and family. With the beginning of the academic year 2012-2013, I will be starting my second year of studying International Business and I am planning to later on focus on Finance or Accounting as my major. After having enjoyed a great first year in Maastricht, I am now looking forward to the new challenge as a SCOPE|FOCUS board member. I wanted to join the board, because being part of SCOPE|FOCUS will enable me to meet new and interesting people, to work in international and focused-driven teams, and to engage in academic and social activities that also provide benefits to my fellow students and my university. For public relations, I especially look forward to promote SCOPE|FOCUS and its activities and events within, but also beyond the boundaries of our faculty and university. Hereby, it is my goal to maintain the great reputation of SCOPE|FOCUS and to further increase SCOPE|FOCUS’s presence on social media channels such as Facebook or LinkedIn to raise awareness of FOCUS among students and sponsors. Furthermore, I am very excited to work together with the INFOCUS magazine committee. Together, we will be up to the task to ask companies, active members, and alumni for their contribution, to come up with fascinating topics, and finally to publish four exciting and interesting INFOCUS magazines. Altogether, I am very much looking forward to this amazing experience with SCOPE|FOCUS and to have a great year with all of you!
Lara Luisa Schott - External Relations Germany
externalgermany@scope-focus.nlI am Luisa Schott, 22 years old and from Hamburg in Germany. During the academic year 2012-2013 I fulfill the position of Commissioner External Relations Germany at SCOPE|FOCUS. In September I will start my International Business Master’s degree in finance and strategy & innovation. When I was a second-year Bachelor student, I became an active member of SCOPE|FOCUS. All the experiences from my work at the International Financial Orientation and the Frankfurt Banking Tour are of high value to me. I want to continue learning and developing by taking the experience one step further. I am excited about working together with a team of highly motivated people and coming back home to the focus family in Maastricht. The main function of SCOPE|FOCUS is to act as an intermediary between businesses and students. It provides the link between the two parties and develops opportunities for both sides. In order for us to be successful, I will fulfill my position by interacting with existing and prospective German sponsors. One of my tasks will be responding to the needs of our existing sponsors. The most challenging tasks for me will be to acquire new German sponsors. My vision is to overcome initial reluctance by making them more acquainted with the value of being a sponsor of SCOPE|FOCUS and having easy access to highly-skilled Maastricht University students. I am looking forward to a challenging year with amazing SCOPE|FOCUS members, exciting activities and a lot of fun! With kind regards, Lara Luisa Schott
