Do you have what it takes to become a Trader at Optiver?
Optiver is an international and innovative proprietary trading firm. We deal with highly-automated electronic market making activities. With offices in Amsterdam, Chicago and Sydney, employing around 600 talented individuals from over 30 nationalities, we trade in more than 20 countries, across 5 continents, 24 hours a day.
Although market making is our core activity, we rely heavily on our IT expertise and excellent Business Operations support. We recognise that only the very latest hardware and software will ensure fast and reliable connections with exchanges worldwide. Our success is the result of our continuous attention to innovation, and we aim to always stay ahead of the technology curve.
No suits, no ties and no red tape. Our culture is one of our most valuable assets: result-driven, open and informal, team-based, ambitious and exceedingly flexible, whilst striving for professionalism within all our departments.
Our offices are modern and offer many stress-relieving extras, such as pool tables, table football and more. We give our employees the flexibility to be innovative, research their ideas and act upon them. Our working environment is ideal for ambitious and talented people who enjoy a challenge. Despite the independent nature of our profession, we are a very team-oriented company.
Who are we looking for
Every year we scout for the highest caliber of graduates to join our Trading department. We have graduate positions available in Trading and Wholesale Trading. Ideally, candidates come from an analytic field of study, such as Finance, Econometrics, Mathematics, Physics or similar. We are, of course, also open to candidates from other fields of study. A flair for numbers, a passion for financial markets, and a strongly competitive nature are necessary.
Your job as a Trader
Are you competitive and a fast decision maker under pressure? As a trader you will price and trade financial options, while managing a complex portfolio of financial instruments. You are expected to take initiative in improving pricing models and show innovation with new trading strategies in order to seize any opportunity that should arise in the market.
Your job as a Wholesale Trader
As a Wholesale Trader you will be responsible for order flow in the professional market deriving from the various exchanges we trade on. Other than our screen traders, who trade directly on the exchange, you will trade directly and indirectly with hedge funds, pension funds, institutional investors and big banks, often through intermediates such as brokers.
What you’ll get
Excellent remuneration, attractive profit sharing, full first-class home-work travel compensation, training opportunities, relocation packages, discounts on health insurance, breakfast and lunch facilities, Friday-afternoon drinks and – yes - even in-house chair massages. Add the chance to work in the US or Australia if you want, and you’ve got to be tempted!
